What is Vermeil / Micron Plating?
Vermeil (pronounced ver-may) is a premium type of gold plating that uses a thick layer of real gold over genuine sterling silver (925 silver).
It offers the luxury of gold jewelry — without the solid gold price tag.
To qualify as Vermeil, jewelry must meet these standards:
-
Base metal
925 Sterling Silver
-
Gold Purity
At least 10K (we use 18K for a rich tone)
-
Gold thickness
Minimum 2.5 microns
This process is called micron plating, where the gold layer’s thickness is measured in microns (1 micron = 0.001 millimeter).
Thicker plating = longer life, better shine, and higher resistance to tarnish or wear.
